Description
A LARGE OIL ON CANVAS STILL LIFE PAINTING SIGNED ASIM HAFIDH (IRAQ, 1886 – 1978), SIGNED AND DATED 1958
This oil on canvas by Iraqi artist Asim Hafidh depicts a traditional still life arrangement. The composition includes a variety of fruits such as grapes, peaches, a pear, plums, and berries positioned on a wooden surface. Accompanying the fruit is a footed glass containing a pale liquid and a lidded metal pitcher. The work is executed in a realist style against a dark, tonal background. The painting is signed in Arabic script in the lower-left corner, transliterating to A. Hafidh, and is dated 58 (1958). The piece is housed in a molded wooden frame with a gold-tone finish. The reverse shows the canvas stretched over a wooden frame with a hanging wire attached.
