Description
A CASED MEERSCHAUM PIPE WITH THE HEAD OF NASIR AL-DIN SHAH OF PERSIA
POSSIBLY OTTOMAN TURKEY OR VIENNA, AUSTRIA, END OF THE 19TH CENTURY
This smoking pipe features a meerschaum bowl carved in the form of a man’s head. The figure is depicted with a prominent handlebar mustache and a tall, textured shako-style hat featuring a fanned crest. The bowl and shank exhibit a deep honey-colored patina. The bowl is joined to a curved, translucent amber-colored stem by a polished silver-toned metal band. The pipe is housed in its original custom-fitted, hinged case with a dark leather-wrapped exterior and a burgundy velvet-lined interior.
