Description
CORNELIS DE BRUYN, A PAIR OF COPPERPLATE ENGRAVINGS OF PERSIAN FIGURES IN SAFAVID CUSTOMS, 17TH CENTURY
This lot consists of a pair of copperplate engravings on a single sheet of laid paper by Cornelis de Bruyn, originating from his publication Travels into Muscovy, Persia, and part of the East-Indies. The left plate is captioned HOMME PERSAN and numbered 80, depicting a male figure in a landscape wearing a large turban and a floral-patterned robe. The right plate is captioned DAME PERSANNE and numbered 87, depicting a female figure in an interior setting wearing a feathered and jeweled headdress with a veil and patterned dress. The sheet features a central vertical fold and exhibits image ghosting and faint markings on the reverse side.
