Description
AN OTTOMAN SCHOOL OIL ON CANVAS PORTRAIT OF SULTAN ABDULAZIZ, TURKEY, 19TH CENTURY
An Ottoman school portrait of Sultan Abdulaziz (1830-1876) executed in oil on canvas. The subject is depicted in a dark blue military tunic featuring a red and gold embroidered collar, a red fez, and a green sash. Two breast stars are visible on the chest of the tunic. The reverse of the canvas bears a manufacturer’s stencil for C. Roberson & Co., 91 Parkway, London N.W. The painting is housed in an ornate gilt wood frame.
