Description
This handpainted wooden lacquerware spice box dates to the mid-20th century. The circular vessel is constructed of turned wood and features a domed lid topped with a central turned finial. The exterior is decorated with intricate hand-painted motifs, including concentric circles, scrolling foliate patterns, and dot borders, executed in a palette of cinnabar red, black, and cream. The box is fitted with simple iron hardware, including wire-loop hinges and a pivoting latch. The underside and interior reveal the underlying wood grain with remnants of red pigment.
