Lot 193:
Description
A pair of Parsi Sadeli-ware boxes featuring traditional Khatam-kari micro-mosaic marquetry. The exterior surfaces are decorated with intricate geometric patterns composed of wood, bone, and metal. The lids are inset with high-relief repousse or chased silver-toned metal panels depicting ancient Persian figurative scenes. One panel illustrates a group of figures arranged around a central fire altar, while the other depicts a banquet scene. The boxes are constructed with plain wooden interiors; the larger box contains a central wooden divider. These items represent the 20th-century Persian marquetry technique often associated with Parsi decorative arts.
