Description
AN ANGLO-INDIAN CARVED SANDALWOOD JEWELLERY BOX, PROBABLY MYSORE, 19TH CENTURY
An Anglo-Indian carved sandalwood jewelry box dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The exterior is intricately decorated with dense, high-relief floral and foliate motifs across the lid and all four sides. The hinged lid features a central rectangular panel depicting two rampant lions flanking a circular medallion containing a peacock. The interior is lined with salmon-colored tufted satin and includes a removable wooden tray with various compartments, also lined in matching fabric. The box is equipped with metal hinges and a front lock mechanism. The base is finished with green felt.
