Description
AN ANGLO INDIAN CARVED SANDALWOOD PORTABLE WRITING DESK, MYSORE, 19TH CENTURY
This Anglo Indian Mysore carved sandalwood portable writing desk features an exterior decorated with dense, high-relief carvings of deities and figures set within lush floral and foliate scrolls. The desk is constructed in a tiered, sloped-front form. The hinged top and front open to reveal a purple velvet-lined writing surface and an organized interior. The interior contains multiple open compartments and small drawers with matching carved facades. One upper compartment includes a removable, intricately carved lid with a small metal ring pull. The piece is equipped with brass hardware, including side swing carry handles and a front lock plate. The desk is raised on four small bun feet.
