Description
AN ANGLO-INDIAN BRASS-BOUND IVORY-INLAID HARDWOOD DRESSING BOX, 19TH CENTURY
This Anglo-Indian dressing box is constructed from dark hardwood, extensively decorated with ivory inlay in the Hoshiarpur style. The exterior features intricate scrolling floral and foliate motifs, with the lid centered by a lozenge-shaped medallion surrounded by multiple decorative borders and chevron-patterned edging. The sides are reinforced with horizontal brass bands and fitted with recessed brass carrying handles. The interior is divided into several compartments, including hinged lids with inlaid floral accents. The underside of the main lid contains an inset rectangular mirror framed by a delicate vine border.
