AN OTTOMAN TORTOISESHELL AND MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID BOX, TURKEY, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY

An Ottoman tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl inlaid box featuring a domed lid and a footed base. The exterior is decorated with intricate geometric parquetry consisting of alternating mother-of-pearl and mottled tortoiseshell panels arranged in diamond and triangular patterns. The piece is further detailed with bone-colored inlay along the edges and bracket feet, set against a dark wood ground. It is equipped with two metal hinges and a decorative metal escutcheon on the front panel. The interior reveals a single compartment lined with aged and stained paper or parchment, showing the underlying wooden construction.
