Description
AN OTTOMAN TORTOISESHELL AND MOTHER-OF-PEARL INLAID SCRIBES TABLE, TURKEY, 17TH – 18TH CENTURY
This Ottoman scribe table is constructed from dark wood with extensive tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl inlay. The rectangular body features a single drawer to the front decorated with a repeating pattern of octagonal stars. The drawer is fitted with a metal ring pull and a central keyhole. The side and back panels are decorated with a parquetry design of alternating triangles. The structure is framed by geometric inlaid borders. The table stands on four integrated legs with arched aprons, all of which continue the inlaid decoration. The top surface consists of an inset dark panel, likely tooled leather or wood, featuring a subtle embossed border.
