Black Soot Ink and Walnut Ink

Handmade Ahar Paper

The concept of this piece is that the letters represent individuals who are gathered on the Day of Judgement awaiting for Union with God. They are seeking forgiveness and are waiting for their judgement. At the top part, the word Allah – meaning God – has been isolated to represent His separation as well as interconnectivity with the Believers who are being raised towards him.

The Ahar Paper is handmade in a process using Alum, egg white and wheat starch and the paper is aged for several years. The inks are made from burning oil and gathering soot in a centuries old tradition as well as boiling walnuts producing a beautifully organic and natural ink.
