A 19TH CENTURY SOUTH ASIAN WATERCOLOR OF MUSICIANS, INSCRIBED HYDERABAD AND DATED 1842
This framed watercolor on paper depicts a trio of musicians seated outdoors. The figures are dressed in traditional regional attire, including long tunics and distinctive tall, striped, cylindrical hats. Two of the musicians are shown playing long-necked stringed instruments, while the third figure holds a bowed instrument. The background features a body of water with a small sailing vessel. The work is executed in a style characteristic of 19th-century South Asian painting. The lower right corner bears the inscription Hyderabad and the date 1842. The piece is housed in a modern gilt-edged frame with a multi-layered mat.
