Description

A SAFAVID TALISMANIC SUFI CALLIGRAPHIC PAGE OF SEAL OF PROPHECY (MEHR-E NABUWAT), PERSIA, 17TH – 18TH CENTURY

This framed Islamic calligraphic manuscript panel depicts the Seal of Prophecy (Mehr-e Nabuwat). The composition features a central circular medallion formed by concentric rings of Arabic script executed in alternating black and red ink. The central medallion is flanked by four small circular roundels in the corners, each containing script. Horizontal bands of larger Persian script, likely in Nasta’liq style, are positioned at the top and bottom of the panel. The work is executed on aged paper and is housed in a cream-colored mat within a gilt-finished wood frame decorated with a foliate molded pattern. The reverse of the frame features a distressed brown paper backing and a wire hanging assembly attached to eye screws.
