AN OTTOMAN ILLUMINATED CALLIGRAPHIC LEVHA WITH HADITH QUDSI
This illuminated Ottoman-style calligraphic panel, or levha, is executed in black ink, gold leaf, and polychrome pigments on paper. The composition features a combination of Thuluth and Naskh scripts. The upper section contains a prominent Hadith Qudsi inscription reading Law laka lama khalaqtu al-aflak, which translates to If not for you, I would not have created the heavens. The central focal point is a stylized monogrammatic medallion in the form of a tugra, flanked by horizontal bands of text. The lower register includes verses from the Quran, specifically from Surah Al-Fath. The work is decorated with intricate illuminated borders and floral arabesque spandrels in gold, red, and blue. The piece is housed in a simple wooden frame with a modern cardboard backing and hanging wire.
