Lot 164:
Description
This Qajar Order of the Imperial Effigy, known as the Nishan-i-Tamtal-i-Humayun, is crafted from a gold-toned metal and set with various stones. The central oval frame houses a sepia-toned portrait that depicts Imam Ali, reflecting the religious and cultural themes prevalent in 19th-century Persian art. The central image is bordered by concentric rows of cabochon-cut turquoise and red and green paste or semi-precious gems. The overall form is a stylized teardrop shape, surmounted by an elaborate crown-like finial and terminating in a flared, three-pronged base, with all sections set with stones. The reverse of the piece features a textured metal finish with a central attachment point.
