Description
This framed print from Lebanon is executed in a traditional Islamic folk art style and depicts the historical Battle of the Trench. The central scene illustrates a mounted combat between Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib and Amr ibn ‘Abd Wud al-Amiri. The figure on the left is identified by Arabic calligraphy as Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib and is shown striking his opponent with a curved sword. The background features a Middle Eastern landscape containing palm trees, a river, and a city with a mosque, dome, and minarets. Additional Arabic text at the top identifies the second warrior and the event.
