Description
AN INDO-PERSIAN MINIATURE PAINTING OF A YOUTH DRINKING WINE, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY
This Indo-Persian style miniature painting, reflecting the Safavid Isfahan school, depicts a youthful figure in a patterned robe and plumed turban leaning against a large, ornately decorated storage jar while holding a small cup. The scene is set against a vibrant blue background featuring stylized trees and wispy clouds, executed in gouache with gold highlights on paper. The artwork is mounted on a brown card with multiple colored borders. The reverse of the card shows significant toning and areas of skinning from previous mounting. A small auction label from VAN HAM is located in the lower right corner of the reverse.
