Description
A SAFAVID MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A SEATED YOUTH IN THE STYLE OF REZA-I ‘ABBASI, PERSIA, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY
This Persian miniature painting is executed in the style of Reza-i ‘Abbasi and dates to the Safavid period. The central composition depicts a kneeling male figure in a turban and a patterned orange robe holding an open book against a neutral ground. The work is enclosed within multiple decorative borders. The inner border features scrolling floral motifs in blue, white, and gold, while the wide outer border contains calligraphic panels in Nasta’liq script. These calligraphic cartouches are set against a ground of fine gold and red floral patterns. The painting is created using gouache and gold highlights on paper. The reverse of the sheet contains handwritten pencil notations, tape remnants, and a small inventory label.
