Lot 134:
Description
This ethnographic implement, identified as a Kuba style prestige knife, features a hand-forged iron blade and a dark, carved wooden hilt. The hilt is sculpted into a figurative human head characterized by stylized facial features and a ridged coiffure. The blade is long and rectangular with a slightly flared, blunt end, typical of ceremonial weaponry from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The hilt retains a small paper inventory sticker marked 1993. Faint, indeterminate markings are present on the face of the blade.
