Description
This pair of 19th-century lacquer bellows is constructed with heart-shaped wooden plates and long, tapered handles. The exterior surfaces are decorated in the Kashmir style with polychrome floral patterns and scrollwork on a cream-toned ground. The motifs are rendered in reds, greens, and blues with gilt highlights. A dark reddish-brown leather section is attached to the wooden plates using small decorative metal studs. A circular vent hole is located in the center of one plate. The interior of the handles features a black scroll pattern on a light ground.
