Description
This Persian Safavid shamshir features a deeply curved, single-edged blade of watered wootz steel. The blade is signed with a gold-inlaid cartouche containing Arabic calligraphy near the forte, attributed to the maker Asad Allah. The hilt consists of a pistol-grip pommel made of horn or bone and a steel crossguard. The crossguard is decorated with gold-inlaid koftgari floral and scrollwork designs. The matching wood-frame scabbard is covered in dark, pebbled leather and features gold-inlaid steel fittings. These fittings include two locket mounts with suspension rings and a matching chape, all displaying consistent floral ornamentation.
