Description
A Qajar polychrome pottery tile, Persia, 19th century. This rectangular glazed earthenware tile features a central figurative scene set within a garden. A group of four figures in traditional Persian attire, including patterned robes and turbans, are depicted amidst blossoming fruit trees and floral sprays, with a bowl of fruit resting on the ground. The scene is rendered in a palette of cobalt blue, yellow, turquoise, and green, accented by an un-inscribed white rectangular cartouche at the top. A decorative border of scrolling vines and palmettes in yellow and green against a blue ground frames the central composition. The reverse reveals the buff earthenware body.
