AN OTTOMAN MANUSCRIPT BIOGRAPHICAL DICTIONARY OF MUSICIANS, ATRAB AL-ATHAR FI TAZKIRAT URAFA AL-ADWAR, DATED 1311 AH, 19TH CENTURY
This lot features an antique manuscript identified by its opening text as Atrab al-Athar fi Tazkirat Urafa al-Adwar, a biographical dictionary of Ottoman musicians. The volume is hand-written in Arabic script, specifically Ottoman Turkish, on paper. The text includes rubricated headings and keywords for emphasis. The manuscript is bound in dark reddish-brown leather featuring elaborate gilt-tooled floral and scrollwork borders and a central medallion. The interior contains significant annotations and marginalia in various hands throughout, along with pasted-in text fragments and evidence of historical repairs.
