Description

A beautifully painted Iznik pottery dish from Ottoman Turkey, dating to the late 16th century. The shallow dish is decorated in a palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, green, and bole red under a clear glaze, centered with a lively composition of flowering stems bearing tulips, carnations, and rosettes—classic motifs of the Ottoman imperial style. The floral sprays rise from a leafy base, set against a milky white ground, enclosed by a border of rhythmic spirals in olive-green.

The reverse is painted with alternating rosettes and stylized motifs in green and blue, surrounding an unglazed foot ring. This piece exemplifies the refined balance, vibrant palette, and technical mastery characteristic of the golden age of Iznik ceramics during the reign of Sultan Murad III.
