Description

A fine and rare Persian lustre pottery star-shaped tile, dating to the Ilkhanid period (13th–14th century). The eight-pointed tile is decorated in a delicate golden-brown lustre on an opaque white ground, depicting two elegantly robed figures seated amidst floral motifs, possibly within a courtly or poetic scene. The composition is enclosed by a cobalt-blue border inscribed with stylized pseudo-calligraphy, typical of Kashan tilework of the period.

The reverse is plain, showing the sandy body characteristic of Kashan ceramics. Such tiles once adorned architectural panels in mosques and palaces, symbolizing both artistic refinement and spiritual luminosity through the masterful use of lustre glaze.
