A finely crafted 19th-century Iraqi silver necklace featuring a rectangular pendant depicting the Virgin Mary (Maria) in delicate painted enamel. The central image is framed by intricate repoussé and filigree decoration, inset with small red and turquoise-colored glass insets at the corners, and suspended with three stylized pendant drops of floral form.
The reverse of the pendant bears a repoussé depiction of a mounted figure holding a cross, possibly representing Saint George or a local Christian saint, reflecting the devotional and protective function of the piece. The pendant is attached to a double chain of interlinked silver loops, demonstrating the traditional silversmithing techniques of Iraqi Christian communities.
