ISLAMIC, INDIAN ART & JEWELS
Lot 81:
Description
This striking 19th-century Indian silver belt is composed of a series of linked, diamond-shaped plaques, each finely decorated with vibrant turquoise-blue enamel arranged in geometric and floral patterns. The alternating motifs create a rhythmic visual effect, with the dark ground enhancing the brilliance of the enamelwork. The reverse of each plaque bears silver marks, attesting to the quality and craftsmanship of the piece.
The articulated construction allows the belt to drape fluidly, showcasing both technical skill and aesthetic refinement characteristic of Indian jewellery traditions of the period. The combination of enamel and silver lends the piece a distinctive elegance, making it suitable for both display and wear.
A beautifully preserved example of 19th-century Indian decorative arts, this belt would make a noteworthy addition to any collection of historic jewellery or South Asian silverwork.
