ISLAMIC, INDIAN ART & JEWELS
Lot 59:
Description
This impressive and scarce Omani kattara features a long, straight, double-edged blade characteristic of the traditional warrior swords of Oman. The blade shows a naturally aged patina with areas of pitting and oxidation consistent with great age, suggesting early manufacture and long service life. The iron crossguard is slightly curved and retains its original form, displaying similarly aged surface texture.
The grip is unusually slender and elongated, terminating in a distinct oval pommel with a pierced opening typical of early kattara construction. The entire hilt, forged in one piece with the tang visible, reflects authentic regional craftsmanship. Despite its age and wear, the sword presents a powerful silhouette and remains a striking example of a traditional Arabian weapon.
