Lot 57:
Description
This elegant Persian jawhar sword features a finely forged, deeply curved steel blade inlaid with gold calligraphy, attributed to the celebrated swordsmith Asad Allah of Isfahan, renowned for producing some of the finest bladed weapons of the Safavid era. The blade displays crisp, flowing inscriptions executed in delicate gold overlay, including cartouches of naskh script and decorative motifs, all characteristic of high-quality Safavid craftsmanship during the reign of Shah Abbas (r. 1588–1629).
The hilt is fitted with a distinctive brass crossguard whose langets and terminal finials extend into elegant, stylised quillon tips, while the pommel forms a graceful scroll carved from wood and set with understated rivets. The overall form is both functional and sculptural, embodying the refined aesthetic of Safavid military arts.
