Description

A finely crafted South Indian brass dhal of circular form, featuring four prominent domed bosses arranged around a central medallion. The face of the shield is decorated with delicately engraved floral and foliate motifs radiating outward from the centre, executed with precision and characteristic South Indian artistry. The bosses are further embellished with crenellated edges and ridged detailing, enhancing both their visual and protective qualities.

The reverse retains its original iron grip bar, secured by visible rivets, and shows expected areas of patination and verdigris consistent with age and use. The brass surface throughout exhibits a warm golden-brown tone with subtle age-related marks, lending the piece an appealing historical character.

An attractive and well-preserved example of a traditional Indian dhal shield, demonstrating both decorative refinement and functional craftsmanship.
