An exceptionally fine and rare Indian miniature painting from the Deccan region, dating to the 17th–18th century, depicting the great Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gailani, one of the most venerated figures in Sufism, surrounded by his devoted Sufi followers in a serene devotional gathering.
The painting shows Sheikh Abdul Qadir Gailani seated in spiritual discourse with his disciples, each adorned with luminous haloes signifying holiness and enlightenment. The figures are arranged around a central platform upon which rest sacred books, delicately painted in shades of pink and green. The composition reflects a sense of harmony and divine order, enhanced by the fine use of soft colors, intricate linework, and touches of gold that are characteristic of Deccani miniature art. The background, rendered with a subtle landscape and interior setting, adds depth while maintaining the spiritual focus on the assembly.
