Description

A finely executed Persian miniature depicting a vivid mounted battle scene, painted in rich, saturated pigments and highlighted with delicate gold details. The central composition shows two warriors in combat on horseback, surrounded by additional figures both mounted and on foot, all rendered with expressive faces, patterned garments, and finely articulated weaponry. The sky is filled with stylised clouds and floating motifs, while lotus blossoms and plants dot the foreground, adding decorative balance typical of the period.

The painting is set within multiple ruled borders of gold, black, and blue, mounted on an older cream-coloured card exhibiting scattered foxing and age-related toning. The reverse features an elegant floral study with blossoming trees, irises, and other garden plants, framed within a similar border and bearing traces of earlier mounting tape around the edges.

This lively and detailed composition reflects the stylistic transition between late Safavid refinement and early Qajar vibrancy, combining narrative drama with the meticulous craftsmanship associated with Persian manuscript painting.
