ISLAMIC, INDIAN ART & JEWELS
Lot 36:
Description
This finely executed Kashmiri devotional drawing presents a stylized representation of the Prophet Muhammad’s footprint, a revered motif in Islamic art. The central form is delicately outlined and embellished with scattered gold flakes, lending the piece a luminous and sacred quality. Surrounding the footprint is a dense and intricate floral border composed of finely painted blossoms in soft pinks, reds, and greens, characteristic of the refined aesthetic of Kashmiri manuscript and miniature traditions.
An inscription in elegant script crowns the upper register, enhancing the spiritual significance of the composition. The artwork is set within a double-ruled frame and mounted in a later wooden frame, which complements the historic character of the piece.
Dating from the 18th to 19th century, this work exemplifies the devotional artistry of Kashmir and its long-standing tradition of producing richly detailed Islamic paintings. It is a rare and evocative object suitable for collectors of Islamic art, South Asian manuscripts, and religious iconography.
