Description

A traditional Palestinian thobe featuring striking red silk thread embroidery on a deep black cotton ground. The dress displays classic regional motifs worked in dense cross-stitch, including geometric patterns, branching forms, and stylized amulets arranged across the chest panel, sleeves, and lower skirt. The large triangular chest bib (qaba‘) is richly decorated, extending onto the shoulders and sleeves in a coordinated design. Additional vertical embroidered bands run along the sides and front, creating a balanced and visually dynamic composition.

The reverse mirrors the front with a similarly embroidered triangular panel, indicative of high-quality craftsmanship. The garment retains its full, flowing cut with long sleeves and a traditional silhouette. Light creasing and minor age-related wear are consistent with its period and prior use. A fine example of 20th-century Palestinian textile heritage, showcasing the artistry and cultural significance of regional embroidery traditions.
