Description

A traditional Yomut Turkmen asmalyk, woven in wool with the distinctive pentagonal form used to decorate the flanks of a camel during wedding ceremonies. The central field is arranged in a repeating lattice of angular ashik motifs rendered in vivid tones of madder red, ivory, deep indigo, walnut brown, and turquoise, forming a bold and rhythmic geometric composition characteristic of Yomut tribal weaving.

The primary border consists of a striking sequence of stepped geometric elements in red and ivory, framed by a secondary border of crossed motifs on a rich blue ground. The lower tapered edge retains its original shape, while the reverse displays typical flatwoven construction and traces of original fastening elements used during ceremonial processions.
