Description

A fine Yomut Turkmen wedding asmalyk, woven in wool with the characteristic pentagonal form used traditionally to adorn the flanks of a camel during bridal processions. The field is arranged with a repeating pattern of kochbek (ram’s horn) or stylised diamond motifs in saturated tones of madder red, deep indigo, ivory, and terracotta, creating a dynamic and rhythmic all-over design typical of Yomut tribal weaving.

The main border displays a striking sequence of serrated, angular motifs in strong contrasting colours, framing the central panel with bold tribal geometry. The lower tapering section retains its original shape, and the back shows the typical flatwoven construction and later reinforcement stitching. One example includes remnants of decorative appliqué or beads, indicating possible ceremonial use.
