Description

A striking and generously proportioned Safavid textile panel composed of a rich crimson silk ground decorated with a repeating pattern of small boteh-shaped floral motifs woven in gold and multicoloured silk thread. The shimmering metallic elements and the rhythmic arrangement of motifs reflect the refined aesthetic and technical sophistication of Safavid textile workshops, renowned for their luxurious court fabrics.

Framing the central field is an impressive wide border woven with bold diagonal chevron patterns in alternating bands of blue, green, ivory, and metallic thread, punctuated by diamond-shaped medallions at the corners. The contrast between the radiant red centre and the geometric border creates a visually dynamic composition typical of high-quality 17th-century Persian textile design.

The panel has been later mounted on a stretcher for preservation and display.
