Description

A beautifully preserved Safavid velvet textile panel, woven with exceptional finesse and displaying a richly patterned design characteristic of 17th-century Persian luxury fabrics. The central field is filled with a dense arrangement of small floral boteh motifs set within a fine lattice, executed in a harmonious palette of soft gold, rose, green, and subtle blue tones. The delicacy of the pattern and the shimmering quality of the velvet pile reflect the high level of craftsmanship associated with Safavid court weaving.

Framing the central panel is a bold navy border decorated with large gilt boteh motifs, each intricately detailed, while the four corners are accentuated with striking crimson squares featuring stylised floral sprays. The interplay of colours—gold, deep blue, and rich red—creates a visually impressive composition that enhances the textile’s regal presence.

The panel shows areas of age-related wear, minor pile loss, and gentle fading consistent with its antiquity, yet the overall design remains clear and vibrant. Its scale and condition make it an excellent example for collectors of Safavid textiles.

An elegant and historically significant velvet panel, emblematic of the refinement and opulence of Safavid Persia.
