Description

This is a finely engraved South Indian bronze ritual tray featuring a detailed narrative scene associated with Krishna. The surface is richly decorated with numerous standing and seated figures, musicians, attendants, and animals—including cows and fish, both of which are traditional symbols in South Indian devotional art.

A central inscribed panel in Devanagari script reads “Krishna”, confirming the subject matter. The engraving style, dotted ornamentation, and costume details are characteristic of Kerala and Tamil Nadu metalwork traditions of the 19th century, echoing the techniques seen in ceremonial plates and temple-related household objects.

The outer border displays a continuous engraved pattern, framing a carefully composed narrative tableau beneath a domed tree canopy. Beneath the main scene, stylized fish motifs form a decorative lower band, a design strongly associated with Kerala craftsmanship.

This tray would have originally served a ceremonial or devotional purpose—possibly for offering, display, or commemoration—and now makes an impressive collectible example of South Indian religious metalwork.
