ISLAMIC, INDIAN ART & JEWELS
Lot 225:
Description
This is a beautifully decorated Russian flax hackle, a traditional tool used for processing flax fibers in the production of linen. Although hackles of this type date back many centuries, this example features ornate Soviet-era folk art engraving, making it both a historical tool and a collectible decorative piece.
The metal plate is richly engraved with floral motifs and bears a Cyrillic inscription commemorating the 68th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, dating the decoration to 1985. The craftsmanship includes intricate etched patterns across the metal surface and black-and-gold detailing along each tooth.
Despite originally being a utilitarian object, the detailed engraving and careful decoration indicate it was likely made or embellished for presentation, display, or as a commemorative folk-art item, rather than daily use.
A striking example of Russian rural heritage and late Soviet folk craftsmanship.
