Description

An intricately cast bronze betel nutcracker from India, dating to the 19th–20th century. The nutcracker is crafted in the form of two stylized zoomorphic arms terminating in dragon or makara heads, their curved jaws forming the functional hinge. The handles extend into sinuous forms ending with decorative finials, while each side is adorned with finely detailed bird figures and floral engraving.

At the top, a triangular blade is set between the two arms, surmounted by a stylized peacock finial—a traditional Indian symbol of grace and auspiciousness. The surface retains a rich patina, highlighting the fine detailing and skilled craftsmanship characteristic of South Indian or Deccan metalwork.
