Description

A finely crafted Indian parcel-gilded silver perfume comb, dating from the 19th century. The comb features an arched body delicately engraved with foliate and floral motifs highlighted with gilt detailing. At the top, a pair of opposing peacocks—symbols of beauty and prosperity—are finely modeled in gilt silver, their long tails extending gracefully across the upper edge.

At the center, a small domed compartment with a screw-top lid was likely intended to hold scented oil or perfume, reflecting the luxurious personal grooming traditions of the Indian elite. The comb’s teeth are neatly aligned, showing the precision of its silversmithing, while the decorative gilt accents enhance its refined elegance.
