Lot 20:
Description
A finely written North African Qur’an section (Juz’), executed in bold Maghribi script in black and red inks, dating to the 15th century. The manuscript contains a complete section of the Holy Qur’an, written on polished paper typical of Maghribi manuscripts, characterized by its distinctive letterforms, rounded contours, and use of red diacritics for vocalization.
The text is carefully laid out in 11 lines per page, with illuminated verse markers in gold and red, and surah headings written in a larger script for emphasis. Occasional marginal notes and small decorative rosettes mark verse divisions. The manuscript exemplifies the religious devotion and regional calligraphic style of the Maghribi world—likely produced in Morocco or Algeria.
Bound in a modern brown leather binding embossed with a central medallion inspired by traditional North African designs, sympathetically preserving the original folios within.
An elegant and early example of Maghribi Qur’anic manuscript tradition, notable for its legible calligraphy and devotional purpose.
