Description

A striking Damascus kashkul (beggar’s bowl) crafted from brass and richly inlaid with silver and copper, fashioned in the highly unusual and sculptural form of two conjoined eagles. Each eagle head rises at either end of the vessel, finely engraved with detailed feathers and set with turquoise-coloured eyes, their beaks forming elegant spouts. The oval body is supported on three naturalistic bird legs, enhancing its zoomorphic character.

The surface is densely decorated with scrolling arabesques, foliate motifs, and cartouches of calligraphy, executed using the traditional damascening technique that characterizes Syrian metalwork. The hinged lid opens to reveal the hollow interior, while the entire composition reflects both craftsmanship and imaginative design typical of the Damascus metal workshops in the early 20th century.
