Description

A finely cast and exceptionally charming Indian hookah base modeled as a seated rabbit, dating to the 19th century. Crafted in brass or bronze, the piece features a beautifully rounded body with naturalistic detailing, including well-defined ears, expressive eyes, and delicately shaped legs. Rising from the rabbit’s back is a ribbed, tapering hookah neck that culminates in a flared, ornamented mouthpiece. The underside shows the original openings associated with traditional hookah construction.

The metal surface displays an attractive dark patina consistent with age, enhancing the sculptural quality and character of the piece. This rare zoomorphic form illustrates both the artistry and whimsy found in Indian metalwork of the period, making it a distinctive addition for collectors of hookah accessories, South Asian art, or antique metalwork.
