Description

This finely moulded Abbasid pottery ewer displays the elegant craftsmanship characteristic of early Islamic Mesopotamia. Formed in a creamy buff-coloured earthenware, the vessel features a broad, slightly tapering body rising to a domed shoulder enriched with a band of repeated vegetal motifs in relief. The neck is decorated with delicately applied moulded rings and culminates in a gently flaring spout.

A particularly striking feature is the twisted rope-form handle, which attaches neatly at the shoulder and adds sculptural presence to the piece. Further moulded embellishments—such as scrolling floral elements and beaded borders—emphasize the refined aesthetic typical of Abbasid luxury ceramics.
