Description

This finely painted earthenware bowl from Nishapur features a cream-toned interior decorated with a central eight-pointed star motif rendered in deep brown slip. The design is framed by a bold red band and an elegant register of stylized geometric scrolls in black, radiating upward toward the rim. The exterior shows subtle brush-painted accents, while the underside retains its original, unglazed surface typical of early Islamic pottery from northeastern Iran. Exhibiting the characteristic aesthetic of Samanid-period ceramics—balance, clarity, and rhythmic ornamentation—this bowl is a distinguished example of Nishapur’s celebrated craftsmanship. Its well-preserved decoration and harmonious proportions make it a highly desirable piece for collectors of early Islamic art and pottery.
