ISLAMIC, INDIAN ART & JEWELS
Lot 156:
Description
This charming pair of moulded pottery bird figures is decorated in vibrant cobalt blue with white highlights, characteristic of Qajar-period ceramic artistry. Each bird is modeled with an expressive upright posture, wide circular eyes, and stylized feather detailing that wraps around the body and tail. The glaze features attractive tonal variations and areas of natural craquelure, enhancing their antique character. The bases reveal the original pierced vents from the firing process, consistent with 19th-century Iranian pottery techniques. Rare to find as a matched pair, these whimsical and boldly modelled birds embody the playful creativity and rich decorative tradition of Qajar ceramics. They make an appealing addition for collectors of Middle Eastern pottery and figural works.
