Description
A magnificent and finely illuminated Ottoman Qur’an manuscript, beautifully written by ‘Abd al-Wahhab bin ‘Uthman during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Khan (Mahmud II, r. 1808–1839), and completed in 1241 AH (1825–1826 CE).
This elegant Qur’an opens with a splendid double-page frontispiece richly illuminated in gold, blue, and red with intricate arabesque and floral motifs, framing the opening verses of the text. The pages throughout are adorned with gold verse markers, polychrome rosettes, and finely ruled gilt and colored borders, reflecting the refined Ottoman manuscript tradition of the early 19th century.
Written in an exceptionally clear naskh script in black ink with rubrication and gold highlighting, the text is framed within gold and colored lines. The manuscript’s lavish decoration and precise calligraphy demonstrate both artistic mastery and devotional dedication.
Bound in its original tooled and gilt leather binding with central medallion, cornerpieces, and gilded border panels. The interior features marbled and block-printed endpapers, typical of Ottoman bindings of this period.
A superb and well-preserved example of late Ottoman Qur’anic art, representing the refined aesthetic of manuscripts produced under Sultan Mahmud II.
